Justin Southwick, founder of Southwick’s Wild Animal Farm was one of the world’s leading authorities on Migratory Waterfowl.
Robert Brewer began educating children about animal’s in 1963, our education programs have grown extensively and are now provided by Earth Limited, the non-profit 501 c 3 Discovery and Education Center located within the zoo grounds.
The main zoo entrance has been evolving since the zoo first opened. Initially dominated by a large number of wooden bird cages, it has transformed into an open area that includes species from South American, Austrailia, and Asia.
The new chimp exhibit, completed in 2001, is an extensive upgrade compared to the original chimp enclosure. This picture shows the old exhibit from around 1986.
Justin Southwick had a wonderful collection of Secretary birds. An endangered and rare bird, the Secretary bird is the tallest flying bird.
